Charles “Craig” Folson

November 4, 1943 - October 11, 2022

  Charles “Craig” Folson entered God’s Kingdom peacefully October 11, 2022, following a massive stroke nine months earlier. Born November 4, 1943 in Grand Forks, ND, to Alan and Ruth Folson, eldest of four children. Craig excelled in varsity football, hockey, track & field and captained the 1961 Central High School State Champion hockey team. Following a tour of active duty in the US Army, Craig enrolled at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, in 1962. He became a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated in 1966 and entered the Dedman School of Law at SMU. Receiving his Juris Doctor in 1969, Craig became interested in oil and gas production and founded Folson Exploration. Coming from a farming background in ND, he bought and sold farmland there. Craig loved football and was a lifelong SMU and Dallas Cowboys fan. He attended countless Super Bowls, College Bowl games, Indianapolis  500’s, Kentucky Derby’s, The Masters and concerts, notably Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. Craig was a world traveler and trains were his passion. A devoted runner, he ran the New York Marathon in 1983. He is survived by sisters, Ann (Craig) Caplinger, Southport, NC, Charlotte Folson, San Antonio, TX, brother, Dr. Stephen (Gretchen) Folson, Phoenix, AZ, nieces, Elizabeth (Jeff)  Shaw and Allison (Tony) Johnson, San Antonio, TX, Kristin Caplinger, North Branford CT, Berit Ruth Folson, Scottsdale, AZ, and nephew, Paul (Tamar) Folson, Phoenix, AZ.  Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, in the Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist (HPUMC), where Craig was a long time member. Details to follow. He will be inurned in the Columbarium at HPUMC.
