All thru high school at central, Pudge, Murph n I would compete against each other on anything, most of the time for money. From a dime (outside the print shop there was a short cement railing we would slide a dime across to who could get closest to the wall without falling off) to skipping school acouple times n go bowling. Buck a game. We got caught and sent to PRINCAPALS Office. Got the third degree of course.Gerald was a lot of fun to hang with. He made life fun and daring. His brother Gene n I shared an apartment together in Conrad Mont. when we worked for Boeing. Great times. Miss ya Gerald! Ken J.
I attended Winship Elementry School with Gerald from first to sixth grade. He is part of my elementary school memories, and I remember Gerald always had a great smile. It was good to see him at the last reunion. I am very sorry for his passing. Olivia Weinrich
I was fortunate to have seen Jerry and his brother Gene in Feb. 2012, when they came from Mpls to CA. From San Diego they took an extensive "road trip" lasting several days. On their way north they stopped in Arcadia. We had a nice visit and I was able to take them to see a few sights in Arcadia and Pasadena. They enjoyed seeing the Santa Anita Race Track (2 blocks from where I live), as well as the Rose Bowl. We drove the route of the Rose Parade along Colorado Blvd. before they left for the rest of their trip. He and Gene were very close and loved traveling together. They were neighbors all through grade school when we attended Winship. It was nice getting reacquainted at the reunion and meeting his wife. He was always a fun-loving guy and will be greatly missed.
Murphy, Jerry D. "Gerald" Age 69, of Bloomington, MN. Died at home, surrounded by loved ones on April 25, 2013. Preceded in death by parents, June and John Murphy & stepfather, Jim Bach. Survived by wife, Betty; 2 step-children, Brenda & Brett; brother, Gene; 6 grandchildren & 1 niece. Very proud of his Army service (64-66). His passion was bowling. Loved to be with his bowling buddies. A private interment at Ft. Snelling Cemetery. (Source: Star Tribune)
I was looking forward to seeing Gerald and Gene at the reunion again. Gerald was a neighbor that lived a half block away, and played together as kids along with Terry O'neil. He always had a smile, and a laugh when he would greet us. Always was a great sales man. We sold soap to earn our way to Y camp, sometimes Terry and I could not sell enough, and Gerald would say I'll sell the rest, and he always did in short order. He could sell the shirt of your back. We always had great times together, and we'll miss him. Our prayers go out to you Gerald, and his family, and to Gene. Hope Gene will make it for the reunion. God Bless. Sincerely, Gary Olson
