After I graduated from UND in 1966, I taught Home Ec in Thief River and Little Falls, MN. I moved to Washington State in 1971, where I completed my Master's Degree at EWU near Spokane. I worked for 29 years as the School Library Media Specialist at Kiona-Benton City HS and retired in 2007.
Before I bought my house in Kennewick in 1995, I traveled often. A trip to Australia and a resort dive on the Great Barrier Reef got me interested in scuba-diving. I took my certification dives in Puget Sound and then traveled to the Caribbean and Hawaii. My most adventurous trip was a 5-week tour of the South Pacific that included diving in Palau, Yap, and Truk Lagoon. It was an awesome experience to dive on the Fujikawa Maru and other sunken Japanese supply ships with a group that included scuba divers from Japan!
Now my main focus is fresh water- specifically the koi pond in my back yard. Getting it enlarged and running properly has been a major (expensive!) project the past 2 summers.
I am a substitute librarian for the Mid-Columbia Public Library System, and so far have worked at 8 of the 11 branches around the Tri-Cities. It is fun to be at the Benton City Library because former students often stop in. Substitutes are limited to 40 hours a month, which is a good thing- I would be scheduled almost full time otherwise.
Being retired, instead of short trips to our annual family reunions in Tucson, I am able to spend the winter in Arizona. I stay at Palm Creek RV Resort in Casa Grande where I enjoy the many activities offered, especially hiking, photography, bingo, and the singles group.
