Roger L. Korsmoe  

Roger L. Korsmoe, 73, Grand Forks, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 24, 2016.

Roger Lyndon Korsmoe, the son of Orville and Gladyce (Ovind) Korsmoe, was born at Northwood, North Dakota on October 20, 1943. He attended West Elementary, Valley Junior High, and Central High school in Grand Forks. Roger served in the US Army from 1960-1963. Roger Korsmoe and Joanne Marsh were united in marriage on October 14, 1967 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Roger worked for Northwest Orient Airlines at the Grand Forks Airport for 38 years, retiring in 2004.

He enjoyed hunting ducks, geese, and deer, and also fishing. Roger and Joanne enjoyed traveling in their coach during the winter, and relaxing on their porch with family and friends during the summer. He enjoyed telling very long and detailed stories. Most of all he enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren who lovingly called him "Papa".

Roger is survived by his wife, Joanne, Grand Forks; children, Shawna (Twe) Hopkins, Houston, TX, Brad (Kim) Korsmoe, Grand Forks, and Greg Korsmoe, Grand Forks; 3 grandchildren, Bria, Ava, and Josh; a brother, Chuck (Sandra) Korsmoe, Grand Forks; a sister, Karen (Skip) Sandberg, Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers-in-law, Ron (Cis) Marsh, Rick (JoAnn) Marsh; sister-in-law, Dianne (Marty) Van Pelt; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Gladyce Korsmoe; and his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Gladys Marsh.

Mass of Christian Burial: will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 18th Ave South, Grand Forks. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Friday, December 30, 2016 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to the charity of your choice. Per Roger's request the family asks that you please leave your necktie at home. Went thru confirmation with Roger at Augustana.  We chatted several times at GF airport as I was flyimg back and forth from Seattle and always looked forward to seeing him.  Really nice guy.

Roger and I were fairly close in early Jr High - in fact, he convinced me to SING(!) with him during one of Jim Preston's "talent" shows in 7th grade - an eye-popping rendition of Why Do Fools Fall in Love! Yeah - pretty funny as I look back on it.

all the gals thought he was a Steve McQueen lookalike. one hell of a nice guy. always enjoyed visiting with him.
